MTV SHOW IF YOU REALLY KNEW ME A CHALLENGE DAY – ZICOPOINT (BLOG)
The series is filmed in coordination with Challenge Day, a social program in which trained leaders visit high schools and, in one intensive day, try to break down the cliques and emotional barriers that keep students from getting to know each other.
Like a reality version of The Breakfast Club, each episode of If You Really Knew Me takes place at a different high school, and follows five students from different cliques as they go through the life-changing experience of Challenge Day, a one-day program that breaks down the walls between cliques, and completely changes the way students view their school and each other.
If You Really Knew Me” is an incredibly authentic and compelling document-series that takes us on a 24 hour journey through a high school’s social transformation. It shows us what happens when kids from various cliques decide to break down the walls that divide them and commit to change,” said Tony DiSanto, President of Programming for MTV. “It’s an intense and dramatic experience, but ultimately uplifting and universally relocatable for all of us who have gone through high school or are about to.” As the series progresses, “If You Really Knew Me” touches on a number of issues ... NEVER TRUST ANDREW BREITBART – MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA (BLOG)
The latest
Andrew-Breitbart-manufactured phony scandal is just one more nail in the coffin
of Breitbart's already dismal credibility.
Breitbart was the first to post
video falsely suggesting that Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod
had discriminated against a white farmer -- allegations that are rapidly unraveling as they
churn through the media.
The fact that Breitbart's
poorly researched
accusations are falling apart should be no surprise to those familiar with his
handiwork. He's the one
who coordinated and promoted the release of heavily edited videos purporting to
show a pattern of illegal activity among ACORN employees -- but multiple
investigations
found no such pattern, and Breitbart, along with videographers James O'Keefe and
Hannah Giles, was repeatedly caught in lies and distortions about the videos.
Undaunted by his
initial failure to catch ACORN breaking the law, Breitbart later
announced that "deeply sensitive and highly political" ACORN documents had been
discovered in a dumpster and suggested that "obstruction of justice" might have
occurred, yet he never offered evidence that the documents were anything other
than trash.

TV BEST BETS WITH RETURNS OF ‘MAD MEN,’ ‘MY BOYS’ – ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION (BLOG)
Don Draper’s a single man and part of a new ad agency. But does this make him a happier man?
We find out as the fourth season of the Emmy-winning drama “Mad Men” returns Sunday on AMC.
Otherwise, it’s a very quiet week on TV. Burt Reynolds, though looking a bit gaunt after heart surgery, makes a fun guest appearance on USA’s “Burn Notice” Thursday and Starz attempts a historical miniseries Friday. TBS has brought back “My Boys” Sunday despite modest ratings. Comedian Jim Gaffigan has left the show but the spirited bickering among friends remains.
And while Jennifer Love Hewitt fans are still mourning the cancellation of “Ghost Whisperer,” they will embrace her in the made-for-Lifetime movie “The Client List” debuting Monday.

FORMER GA. GOV. ROY BARNES WINS DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY; HANDEL, DEAL IN RUNOFF – WASHINGTON POST (BLOG)
Updated at 11:05 p.m. By Aaron Blake Former Georgia governor Roy Barnes(D) won his party's nomination for governor Tuesday, while former secretary of state Karen Handel and former congressman Nathan Deal qualified for an Aug. 10 runoff on the GOP side. Barnes defeated state Attorney General Thurbert Baker and five other Democrats in his race, getting nearly two-thirds of the vote. The Democratic Governors Association aims to be competitive for a seat now held by a Republican, Sonny Perdue, and Democrats are hopeful that Barnes's decisive win, while Republicans are still settling on a candidate, will give him a leg up in November. Handel and Deal led five rivals in the Republican race. With four-fifths of the vote in, Handel was first at 33 percent, while Deal took the second spot with 24 percent of the vote. Handel came into Tuesday's voting with the momentum, thanks in part to former Republican - Sarah Palin - Roy Barnes - Karen Handel - Sonny Perdue

UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION VOTE, JULY 20, 2010 – TPI NEWS (BLOG)
The Senate has advanced the unemployment extension bill today after a vote of 60-40. All Democrats, excepting Ben Nelson of Nebraska voted in favor of the bill, along with two Republican senators.
Votes were read aloud, and when the clerk reached newly appointed Sen. Carte Goodwin “aye” vote applause came from the Democrats in the building. Now the unemployment cover extension bill has been passed for another Senate vote that is also expected for today.
This is a bill millions of Americans have been waiting for, and we here at TPI have been documenting the state of the bill that has been delayed for a long time by the GOP. Thanks to this bill, the federal unemployment benefit program will be extended through the end of November, maintaining the four federal tiers and federal support of the two tiers of the Extended Benefits program for a total of up to 99 weeks in hardest-hit states.
This bill will be retroactive to June 2 when the unemployment cover program expired.
Democrats are looking to pass the bill quickly for it to be then signed by President Barack Obama.

DEFARRA GAYMON MURDER INVESTIGATIONS – TPI NEWS (BLOG)
DeFarra Gaymon was the president and CEO of Credit Union Atlanta. He was shot on Friday by an undercover police detective, who was interviewed last night by investigators. Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County prosecutor has announced more details on the case will be made available.
Gaymon, 48, was shot in the chest around 6 pm on Friday. He was on Newark for a high school reunion. It has been known that DeFarra Gaymon was unarmed, although police has stated he “tussled” with the detective trying to arrest him. He leaves four children.

The officer was not injured but the newspaper reported that the detective was medicated after the shooting. MEET ‘K-TOWN’ THE NEW ASIAN ‘JERSEY SHORE’ – CHICAGONOW (BLOG)
If you haven't heard, a lot of people are completely offended by MTV reality show The Jersey Shore. And by offended, I mean they also want there 15-minutes in the spotlight.
So meet K-Town, the Korean version of MTV's hit series The Jersey Shore. The show is being produced by actor/singer Tyrese who you may have seen lately blocking traffic on Michigan Ave., with some guy named Shia LaBeouf.
The show features 4 boys and 4 girls living and partying together in Koreatown, Los Angeles. And I have to admit that The Situation has nothing on body builder and rumored porn star Peter Le. Seriously, are all these people models?
The official cast members are Young Lee, Joe Cha, Peter Le, Steve Kim, Jennifer Field, Scarlet Chan, Violet Kim, and Jasmine Chang. Besides the HOT bodies they definitely seem to have more personality and charm than their predecessors. (I was one fist-pump away from killing myself)
And besides the obvious comparisons like Violet Kim is the new Snooki, and numerous references to something called Soju. I'm all on board!
K-Town is currently being shopped to potential networks but probably ... [more..]
