MITUBE IPHONE APP LETS YOU DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON YOUR IOS DEVICE …
Those of you that, for some reason, want to download YouTube clips straight on your iPhone or other iOS device can do so now officially with MiTube. I say officially as the application was previously available only in the Cydia store (under the name of MxTube) but has been approved by Apple and it is now found in the App Store. MiTube will work with various iPhone models, the iPod touch and the iPad, so whatever iOS device you have you’ll be able to get MiTube immediately. The application comes free of charge and it’s compatible with iOS 4.0 devices too but does require iPhone OS 3.0 or later to work properly. I haven’t tested MiTube myself since I rarely find myself in a situation where I’d need to have a saved YouTube video on hand, but the whole process should be pretty straightforward. Point the app to your favorite YouTube clips, the kind of content you’d always want to carry with you and access even if there’s no Wi-Fi or 3G coverage and MiTube will help you save them on your iOS device. Naturally the application also lets you stream videos, so you don’t have to ... [more..]
ROUNDUP: APPLE’S FREE IPHONE 4 CASES
Apple on Friday released its free iPhone 4 case program in the form of an iPhone app. If you own an iPhone 4, you can use Apple’s new iPhone app to select a free case from Incase, Belkin, Griffin, or Speck—but which one to choose? We're working on getting some review units, but for now, here’s a quick overview of each of the cases to help you make a decision. I have a few quick notes before we begin, though. After surveying the manufacturer sites (we’re working on getting actual review units), it looks like these cases offer generally the same designs with some subtle differences and manufacturer style and quality distinctions. None of them offer quick-access for docking your iPhone 4, like Incase’s Slider Case does; you will have to complete remove the case when—or if—you want to use a Dock. They also do not include separate screen protector stickers or built-in, multi-touch-friendly display protection; they're all open-faced. Some of them cover and protect the iPhone 4’s power and volume buttons with their own press-through buttons, and some expose Apple’s buttons through simple cutouts. That's a trade-off of protection and a little bulk versus a slimmer ... [more..]
INCASE SNAP CASE IPHONE 4: APPLES FREE IPHONE 4 CASE PROGRAM BEGINS
Got iPhone 4 reception and dropped call issues? There’s a case for that. And an app. Apple began its program to give all owners of the iPhone 4 a free case in an attempt to alleviate issues stemming from placement of one of its antennas. The move was announced at an impromptu press conference last Friday. Current owners of the device as well as any prospective buyers up to Sept. 30 can download an app from the iTunes store which, when used on their device, provides step-by-step instructions for securing a free case. Options are available, from Apple’s own bumper case (only available through the program in black) as well as third-party manufacturers like InCase and Belkin. (Note the picture here is a rendering from Incase of what the design may be. To see it and other renderings, head to the Incase website.) Apple launched the iPhone 4 nearly a month ago on June 24, selling 1.7 million phones over its launch weekend. Reports began to emerge that when bridging the gap on the lower left end of the device with a finger, reception and calls dropped. The frenzy came to a peak when ... [more..]
