CRANKY HANKE’S WEEKLY REELER JULY 28-AUG. 3: HOPEFULLY, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
In theaters This is the week that the much-praised and locally anticipated The Kids Are All Right makes it into town (Fine Arts and the Carolina)—along with less enticing titles Dinner for Schmucks, Charlie St. Cloud and, gods save us, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. I suppose this is what is known as “something for everyone.” Whether or not that’s a good thing is a separate issue altogether. Personally, the only of these films that actually intrigues me is The Kids Are All Right, which, despite the spelling, appears to have some sort of connection to the Who song “The Kids Are Alright,” though I’ve yet to determine if the song itself is used in the movie. Considering the plot, the phrase, “I don’t mind other guys dancing with my girl,” will take on a whole new meaning in this context. The story concerns a lesbian couple (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) whose teenage children (Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska) track down their sperm-donor father (Mark Ruffalo)—with unpredictable results. Some of this is comical and some of it is not so funny. There’s no denying, however, that the film comes with a Rotten Tomatoes level of ... [more..]

UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION VOTE, JULY 20, 2010 – TPI NEWS (BLOG)
The Senate has advanced the unemployment extension bill today after a vote of 60-40. All Democrats, excepting Ben Nelson of Nebraska voted in favor of the bill, along with two Republican senators.
Votes were read aloud, and when the clerk reached newly appointed Sen. Carte Goodwin “aye” vote applause came from the Democrats in the building. Now the unemployment cover extension bill has been passed for another Senate vote that is also expected for today.
This is a bill millions of Americans have been waiting for, and we here at TPI have been documenting the state of the bill that has been delayed for a long time by the GOP. Thanks to this bill, the federal unemployment benefit program will be extended through the end of November, maintaining the four federal tiers and federal support of the two tiers of the Extended Benefits program for a total of up to 99 weeks in hardest-hit states.
This bill will be retroactive to June 2 when the unemployment cover program expired.
Democrats are looking to pass the bill quickly for it to be then signed by President Barack Obama.

That meant Kane earned the right to a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship.Alicia Fox beat Eve Torres in a Divas Championship Match while in the WWE Women’s Championship Layla beat Kelly Kelly. QUESTIONS STEMMING FROM THE JULY 12TH EDITION OF RAW – BLEACHER REPORT
SATIRE ? July 12th brings the final RAW before the Money In The Bank pay per view. Who will replace R-Truth in the RAW ladder match? What impact will Nexus have tonight? What in the world is Florence Henderson doing hosting RAW? Will John Cena survive the handicap match? Let’s find out.
Remember, this is part recap, part humor.John Cena said last week that he intends to take ach member of the Nexus down. Could you imagine how long and drawn out it would be if he means individually? Seven different matches? Would he start with Michael Tarver, arguably the lowest member on the totem pole? Or would he go right for Wade Barrett to start, getting rid of the tough one at the beginning? Will tonight's 7-on-1 handicap match count? I wouldn't think so. If so, I question Cena's resolve.Well I guess John Cena taking out Darren Young last week, leaving him injured for tonight's program and unable to compete, means it's now a 6-on-1, so I guess that might count as taking them on one by one.How much easier would John Cena's job be in taking out Nexus if they really couldn't see him. And if John Cena wants to ... [more..]
