The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has called off negotiations on a network neutrality compromise scheduled for the coming days, saying the talks have not been fruitful enough.The FCC's decision to cancel this round of negotiations comes after news reports late Wednesday that Google and Verizon Communications were close to their own deal on network management practices.The negotiations have been "productive on several fronts," Edward Lazarus, the FCC's chief of staff, said in a statement. However, the discussions have "not generated a robust framework to preserve the openness and freedom of the Internet -- one that drives innovation, investment, free speech, and consumer choice," he added. "All options remain on the table as we continue to seek broad input on this vital issue."An FCC spokeswoman didn't say whether the FCC's decision to call off the talks and the news reports on Verizon and Google's negotiations were related.The FCC has been hosting net neutrality negotiations with broadband providers and other interested groups since June, after providers and dozens of U.S. lawmakers objected to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski's plan to create formal rules at the agency. Yes, the Hotchkisses (not sure what the plural of Hotchkiss is... Hotchki?) are planning another vacation. We're heading over to the U.K,. where we'll be spending a few weeks in a speck of a village called St. Arvans in Wales. The Delight's in the Details I love planning vacations. In this last instance, I realized I spent more hours planning than I will spend vacationing. Part of this is through necessity. We're doing a home exchange, so it's a little more involved than just booking a hotel. It's a "self-serve" vacation -- you need to know things like where is the nearest grocery store, what is there to do in the area and, most importantly, how close is the nearest pub? Luckily, it's the UK, so no matter how small the village, there are always pubs close at hand. We actually have three to choose from within a five-km drive. How civilized! Indiana residents can now start applying for unemployment benefits.   It was earlier announced that residents can apply for unemployment benefits by Tueday, August 3. However, signing of unemployment benefits in Indiana started earlier following the completion of computer programming. Vouchers for eligible residents are now being posted according to officials of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. One-third of the vouchers are expected to be available on Monday, department officials say. They also expect all vouchers ready by Tuesday and updates are done on a daily basis. Indiana State Administration Department Commissioner Mark Everson has confirmed that Hoosiers can start filing for their unemployment benefits ahead of schedule. There are twenty seven full-service WorkOne Centers for the Department of Workforce Development. These centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Friday, August 6. This new federal legislation has an estimate of 80,000 possible beneficiaries of the unemployment benefits. Retroactive unemployment benefits can be filed online as well. WorkOne Centers are also processing unemployment benefits extension at the end of the benefits period. LONDON: Coolabi has started production on the Nick Jr. UK-commissioned children's series based on the literary character Poppy Cat. The series is slated for a 2011 launch on the network. Ahead of its launch, the show has already been sold to Nick Jr. Australia, RTE in Ireland, YLE in Finland, TV2 in Norway and Canada's TVO, SCN and Knowledge Network. CAKE Entertainment handles the global distribution for the series, which will be a highlight at MIP Junior in October. In February, Collabi brought on King Rollo Films as its animation partner for the series. Michael Dee, Coolabi’s director of content, said: “We are very proud to be investing in animation in our lead market, particularly when the U.K. animation industry is having funding challenges at present. In the NBA offseason, anything can happen. The Minnesota Timberwolves are close to dealing their power forward Al Jefferson to the Utah Jazz. Jefferson has three years remaining in his contract worth million with the T-Wolves. The Jazz may still have salary room to accommodate Jefferson’s deal using their more than million exception they got from the Chicago Bull as a result of the sign-and-trade deal on Carlos Boozer. The Dallas Mavericks were in the hunt for Al Jefferson but it appears that the Jazz are all set to acquire the 25-year old power forward. The 15th overall draft pick of the 2004 NBA season has averages of 17.1 points and 9.2 rebounds but he struggled after an injury in February 2009 that required surgery on his right ACL. After Andres Iniesta scored in extra time for Spain, the deciding goal in a 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the World Cup final, he pulled off his jersey to reveal a vest with "Dani Jarque seimpre con nosotros" written on it. That means "Dani Jarque is always with us," a reference to former Espanyol defender Dani Jarque, who died of a heart attack in August 2009. After the match, Iniesta said: "This is for Dani Jarque, for my family, for all of the people.
